Legislation

The work of the National Board of Antiquities is governed by several Acts and Decrees such as the Act and Decree of the Board and their amendments.

The most central acts connected to the board's activities which direct the protection of material cultural heritage are the Antiquities Act, the Act on the Protection of Buildings, the Act on the Restrictions to the Export of Cultural Goods, the Land Use and Building Act and the Church Act.

The National Board of Antiquities makes decisions under these acts in certain protection issues and makes statements on issues which are under other officials' authority.
