Cultural Environment

The activities of humans and their relationship with their environments now and in days of old are visible in the cultural environment. The cultural environment consists of relics, the cultivated environment, scenery and traditional biotopes. It is protected by means of legislation, collaboration between environmental and cultural administration, and the actions of citizens. The National Board of Antiquities takes part in preserving, maintaining and developing the continuously changing cultural environs. To support the planning of land usage, the National Board of Antiquities also releases statements related to archaeological culture heritage, built heritage and the cultural landscape, as well as developing methods for protection, maintenance and repairs and spreading knowledge about the values and opportunities connected with cultural environments.
