The research work in 2004In 2004, no fieldwork research was carried out at the medieval wreck site in Nauvo. The Maritime Archaeology Unit (former Maritime Museum) had to use its resources to finish the MoSS Project. However, the researchers examined the artefacts raised from the site and completed the necessary post-fieldwork analyses. In addition, the Maritime Archaeology Unit was one of the exhibitors in an exhibition called “Hylkyjen aarteet” (Treasures from Wrecks) in the Post Museum of Helsinki. It was the first time ceramics raised from the medieval site in Nauvo were presented for the public. Because the conserving of the church bell and some of the other items was incomplete, these could not be put in display. Conserving artefacts from underwater sites is time consuming and requires special skills. ![]() ![]() |
