Museum Sector Development
The National Board of Antiquities is responsible for the general development of the Finnish museum field, contractual control of the regional operation of museums, the distribution of state funding, and the maintenance of museum-related statistics. Additionally, it promotes cooperation between museums, counselling and organising training as well as nationally supporting the development of museums' data systems.

Museums in Finland
The museum sector in Finland is rich and varied. The National Museum, The National Gallery and the Finnish Museum of Natural History are national museums. There are also 14 national specialized museums and, at the regional level, 22 provincial museums and 16 regional art museums. Local museums include both professionally run museums and museums operating on a non-professional basis.
