Main Organizers


The National Board of Antiquities and Helsinki City Museum – Central Uusimaa Provincial Museum are the main organizers of the EMAC Helsinki conference.

The Development Unit of the National Board of Antiquities focuses in its work on developing the Finnish museum field and its standards of activities. The unit is responsible for the proportionate state aid for municipal and private museums and it organizes training, provides consultation, and encourages cooperation between museums and related actors.

Helsinki City Museum is one of the 22 Provincial Museums of Finland. As the Central Uusimaa Provincial Museum it offers professional support and guidance in questions related to cultural heritage. Operational area comprises nine municipalities in Uusimaa region. Tasks include promoting cooperation and providing expert assistance to the museums in the region, promoting the protection of the cultural environment and attending to the accessibility of information on the cultural heritage. Organizing Partners


The Finnish Museums Association, the Finnish National Committee of ICOM (ICOM Finland) and the British Council are the organizing partners of the EMAC Helsinki conference.

The Finnish Museums Association is the central organisation for museums and it incorporates all professionally run museums in Finland. Its tasks include looking after museums´ interests and advancing museums´ activities.

ICOM Finland is a registered association with more than 700 members; therefore Finland is one of the largest member’s countries. ICOM Finland co-operates with Finnish Museum Association and other organizations with related interest and encourages its members to participate in international committee meetings by granting subsidies for travel grants. One important objective is to ensure that national legislation is in accordance with ICOM's Code of Ethics.

The British Council is the United Kingdom's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. In Finland and Europe, the Council's mission is to create partnerships and networks across a range of areas which represent culture in the broadest sense.
