|The aim of The National Board of Antiquities is to produce and analyse information regarding the Finnish cultural heritage. This information is needed for strategic development of state administration and for building a background for societal discussion. The purpose of The National Board of Antiquities is also to improve the museums' process of compiling statistics.
Every year, the Board collects statistical data of the finances, personnel, and operations of professionally managed museums. The museum statistics are produced for the museums and their interest groups as well as for the authorities. The national statistics collected from the museums are also used in international contexts, for example in the publications and online application of the EGMUS work group (European Group on Museums Statistics). Museum statistics are published both in printed format and as an online publication.
In addition to the yearly statistical survey, every five years the National Board of Antiquities collects information about all the museums in operation in our country.
