Finlandisation in Finland

Häme Castle 30 April 2010 – 17 October 2010

The exhibition “Finlandisation in Finland” takes visitors on a trip to the times of the president Urho Kaleva Kekkonen. The closest neighbour was the Soviet Union and the Finnish ice Hockey team was never successful.

Term ‘finlandisation’ was launched in 1948 when The Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance Treaty between Finland and the Soviet Union was signed. Finlandisation is understood as a political, economic and cultural phenomenon during the Cold War. The exhibition shows finlandisation through films, photographs and artefacts with a sense of humour.
