General operating instructions

The National Board of Antiquities’ website has been designed and produced to adjust to various different kinds of operating environments. Due to this, the page width stretches according to the browser window’s size.

If you use your Internet-browser in full-screen size and find that the text is difficult to read due to the long lines, you can diminish the size of the browser window until the text columns are suitable for you.

It is also recommended to use text minimising and maximising choices available in the browser; they can normally be found under View > Text size menu.

Cookies

The pages consist of the main headlines situated in the menu bar at the top, the links on the left of the page and the main contents of the page. Under the menu bar are the cookies, which show your current location on the site map and through which you can easily move to the previous pages.

Links

All the links open in the same browser window to improve usability and clarity. If you want to open the link into a new window, the browser normally has a way of doing that. In Internet Explorer you can right click the link and choose the ”open in New Window” option, and the link will open up in its own window.

Search instructions

The search facility of the National Board of Antiquities’ site is directed to the pages on the site and its links. A search is executed by writing a word or a sentence into the search field and clicking the search button. The search service processes comply with the principles of the Internet’s most popular search engines.

Structure

The site structure has been implemented by using the CSS-technique, which is why it is recommended to use a fairly new browser which supports the current standards of the HTML-language.

Old/out-of-date address

The site’s addresses changed as the pages were renewed and the old addresses now give 404-error messages (= the page cannot be found). If you find a link which does not function, the error page is aimed to help you to the right page. If this is not helpful, you can try and find the page you are looking for through the search facility.

The 404-error pages are also saved into the maintenance data, whose log data helps us in the development of our site.
