The National Board of Antiquities Library is open to the general public. It specialises in literature on cultural history and protection of cultural heritage. The majority of the collection concerns archaeology, history, ethnology, museology and art history.

Most of the books and periodicals in the main library are available for borrowing. Some of the library material is in the reference libraries of the various National Board of Antiquities' departments. Material from the reference libraries of the various departments is in most cases for reading room use only.

Most of the literature can be found in the union catalogue database HELKA and can be borrowed with the HELKA library card.

The main library has a reading room and public-access computers for information searches. Photocopies, interlibrary loans and extensive information retrievals are subject to a fee.

The library supplies interlibrary loans from its own collections to other libraries, who can place their order by e-mail, fax or mail.
