Herman Gesellius 1874 – 1916

Herman Gesellius initially planned a career in engineering. Before starting his studies in architecture in 1893, he had already been a trainee at the factories of the Nobel family in Petersburg and studied mechanical engineering for a year at the Polytechnical Institute.
The
Wuorio house on
Unioninkatu Street in Helsinki is the most famous building by Gesellius. As an interior designer he is remembered for his design for the
Suur-Merijoki Manor and
Haus Remer. Gesellius’ production remained quite limited as he fell seriously ill in 1912 and died in 1916.
