Christmas feeling in the National Museum

The National Museum is dressed up for the Christmas in the old fashioned way. There are Christmas trees and tables decorated in styles used between 18th and 20th centuries on display. Two 18th century style small Christmas trees in the Drawing Room of the Jakkarila Manor present manor house christmas tradition. Christmas table in chimneyless smoke cabin from Eastern Finland and Christmas table from Western Finland, display 19th century traditions among the common people.

A 19th century style Christmas tree is decorated according to a photograph of Christmas spent by the author Zacharias Topelius in 1897. The traditional National Museum's Christmas tree in the central hall is decorated in 1930's style with candles, real apples, gingerbread cookies and festive ribbons.

In the Workshop Vintti one can look for the hidden elves and there is Christmas hobby activities for children over 5 years old. Christmas feeling is also present in the dollhouse exhibition Dream Homes, open until Sunday 2 September 2012.
