The National Museum of Finland
6th of July - 9th of October 2005
This touring exhibition is dedicated to the whole life and career of C. G. E. Mannerheim (1867-1951). His studies in Finland and Russia and his service in the Russian Army, a period that is possibly less known to Finns, are presented through exhibited objects, visual materials and documents. The exhibition naturally presents Mannerheim as an explorer of Asia, general, Regent of Finland, commander-in-chief of the Finnish armed forces in the Second World War, and president of Finland.
In addition to Mannerheim’s official and public life, the exhibition extensively reflects Mannerheim’s personality as an elegant man of the world, big-game hunter, gourmet, an active figure in civic organizations and a world traveller.
The exhibits have been compiled from several museums in Finland and Russia, private collections and archives. On display are rare objects and documents of unique historical value that have not been exhibited previously.
