National Museum learning

The National Museum is an inspiring and animated learning enviroment. A museum visit complements school education and can be easily combined with various subjects. Museum visits best support subjects such as History, Religion, Ethics, Finnish, Textile crafts, Technical crafts, Home economics and Art.

Guided tours

A guided tour is the most convinient way for a group to explore the museum. The basic tour is 45 minutes in duration. It is planned in accordance with the teacher's wishes and it can be combined, for example, with prehistory workshops.

Booked guided tours for school children are subject to fee.

Workshop VINTTI is an interactive exhibition, where visitors can study the history of Finland and its culture using their hands and heads. Children's groups (day-care centres, schools) are requested to visit Workshop VINTTI only on guided tours between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. from Tuesday to Friday.

Prices for booked guided tours 2013

The VAT for guided tours is 24 % (included in the price).
We recommend a maximum visitor group size of 30 persons. Children's tours can consist of 25 school children or 20 day-care children at the most. For groups larger than 30 persons, you will have to book two guided tours.

Day-care and school groups, upper secondary education groups € 45 / 45 min. No entrance fee.
Higher education student groups, university and polytechnics student groups € 80 / 1 hour. No entrance fee.
Entrance to the museum is free for all under 18-year-olds and groups of full-time students (upper secondary education groups, higher education groups, universities and polytechnics). Teachers and supervising adults accompanying groups of day-care children, schoolchildren and students, also have free entrance.

Payment and invoicing

Payment for tours can be made upon arrival at the museum at the info desk. We accept cash, credit cards, vouchers (Travel Agencies) and invoicing.
Registered organisations and companies with a Business ID can be invoiced afterwards. The invoicing address and Business ID are required when making the booking. No invoicing surcharge.

Bookings must be made a minimum of one week in advance, two weeks for groups of 30 persons or more.

Cancellations

Cancellations are possible until 2 working days previous to the tour. Otherwise full price will be charged.

Museums opening hours for guided school tours

In addition to normal opening hours, guided tours are available to school groups between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. from Tuesday to Friday, when the museum is closed to the general public. Yet, it is not possible for a group to stay in the museum by themselves if the tour finishes before 11 a.m.

Self-guided visits are not possible before 11 a.m. Teachers are welcome to self-guide their groups once the museum opens at 11 a.m. No entrance fee for teachers and children or students.

Advice for teachers

Writing pads are available for school children. Please ask from the ticket-office personnel.
Packed lunch should be noted in the booking, tel. +358 (0)9 4050 9552, Tue-Fri 9 a.m.-12 noon, in order to provide a suitable location for eating.
Teachers should supervise the work of their pupils and students in the museum to avoid disturbances.
The self-service cloakroom is free of charge and is located on the first floor next to the main entrance. There are coin-operated (50 cent) lockers next to the cloakroom and on the ground floor.
For reasons of visitor and exhibit security, backpacks, large bags, food, beverages and umbrellas must be left in the cloakroom or the lockers. There is separate storage space for the bags and backpacks of schoolchildren in the cloakroom area.
Do not touch the exhibits. All the objects on display in the museum are valuable and are meant to be preserved for future generations. Special tours can be arranged for sight-impaired visitors.

For teachers

Teachers presenting a Finnish Teachers Union card can visit the museum free of charge to plan class visits, and they can also book low-priced special guided tours for teachers.
Free information and training sessions on the museum's exhibitions are also held for teachers.
